I agree. Even though I prefer Dylan, Ryan Adams tries to reinvent himself with every album it seems..he also doesn't prescribe to a particular genre of music.

Speaking of this version, this is one of the few times that the always-seemingly-bored with-the-original-melodies Bob has succeeded in my opinion as topping the original recording. Not trying to be critical-but too often I appreciate the original recordings "too much" to enjoy any tinkering later on.
This one however gets gold stars in my book. So does the Rolling Thunder version of "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You".

No coincidence that the great glorious mess that was the Rolling Thunder Tour was taking place at about the same time as the Dead's Wall of Sound Tour. Excess of equipment, entourage, expression, and (again, not coincidentally) weed. Great art is born of artists taking unwise risks,enduring and reveling in victory and glorious failure.

Indeed I remember that concert on TV. I was 16 years old, but from these videos I remember it better than what I had for lunch today. I ran out and bought the album from this concert and played it raw! Funny - the album is titled "Hard Rain", but the song is not on the album! In fact, none of the songs with Joan Baez were used, unfortunately leaving off Deportee, the best song of the show! That said, this, Maggie's Farm and Idiot Wind are amazing. I'm on my way to EBay to find this CD!

I saw dylan a couple of weeks ago in Victoria. What a disappointment. Shitty sound, he wore this hat so you couldn't see his face, played a bunch of really lame songs. Harmonica hurt my ears. bunch of people fell asleep. Seeing this video makes me wish he played this song, with the same passion and coherency.

I saw him in Vancouver the day after he played in Victoria, and it was amazing! the whole crowd was standing up chearing the whole show, he did wear his hat, but that doesnt bother me at all, the music was amazing

I was at that same Victoria concert, I was about 5th row, sec B, and you were right about the sound quality. The system that they had there was horrible, the levels were all off, you could barely here the lead guitar it was so muffled there.
