well theres actually 2 "kinds" of rap.
ones written by emcees and the other written by rappers.
emcees usually rap about life, and the values of it and the problems of society.
Rappers are.. well just go on mtv. MTV made gangsta and party rap popular. and thats why when people think of rap they think of this first.

I agree. There's nothing wrong with listning to it but most people take it to seriously and then go out and act like the rappers say they act...like "gangstas". The only rapper I can listen to is Eminem and I dont really like him.

I some what agree with you. Yes, some people do take rap music and dance-hall a little too seriously. Many people sometimes take what they say and hear and apply it to their everyday knowledge. In that case that's where " music " comes in the wrong at. I'm not really a fan of dance-hall but i will listen to rap. Some rappers aren't exactly talking about selling drugs and killing people. So you do have to get them the benefit of the doubt.

i agree with Mr.P on this matter, but i think that rap is more than just an unpleasant form of music (and I use the term loosely). It is a major contributer to the moral decline of society, and a factor that influences many other cultures to believe ours to be inferior and unclean. Their beliefs are not unwarranted , as rap is a stain on our society. I don't advocate censorship, but rather informing the public of their grievous error in logical thought.

Oh and FYI:
Heavy Metal, Punk Rock, and R&B all contain lyrics from various artist(of those genres) about sex, violence, promiscuity, death etc.
From the 50s to the present.
It's whether you can appreciate music for it's creativity and art, and separate that from a literal sense, then you'll know what music is. Hip Hop and Dance Hall are top genres of music, there is no fucking class when it comes to music. No ranking. No higher level. Music=Music. It's about the content, and not all are "bad".
