What's that supposed to mean? That there can be no Western civilization without the catholic church? I think it's you who have a lot to learn. You can start by studying economics and human geography. Uhm, no. The final defenders of slavery in the US used the bible to show that it was God's will to allow for slaves to be kept. It was not the bible that convinced anyone to abolish slavery, but the development and maturity of our societies.

Atheism is not a doctrine, so it can't influence anyone to do anything, for good or for bad. Like making people in Africa believe that condoms don't work, an idea that the Pope is responsible for proliferating.
