i noticed that he says, "excuse me one moment while i launder my clothes".. instead of, "excuse me one moment while i powder my nose".. maybe cocaine was too touchy of a subject for whomever directed this video..

I've always like Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, even back in the 80s, though they were never a huge band (they only ever seemed to have a quiet following, though a very loyal one). Their music has aged so well, I think listening to their songs now, it's quite evident. I wonder why they were never bigger!

I met Lloyd Cole in late 1979 or early 1980 when he was in his first year at UCL (London). He was a friend of my sister. He let me sleep on his floor because I had a job interview the next day just north of London. We stayed up most of the night playing cards and listening to Leonard Cohen records. He told me he was going to be a rock star. I laughed at him. Guess the joke's on me.

Grouchy? Not as far as I remember, but of course it was nearly 30 years ago, so my memory is somewhat sketchy. I just remember him being kind enough to offer me - a stranger, albeit his friend's brother - his hospitality. Maybe grouchiness comes with wealth and fame. BTW, despite being up almost all night with Lloyd, I got the job the next day!

that may be true of the video, but i bought the cd when i was living in the u.s. and he definitely said "powder my nose". hmmm feels like prohibition, baby. ;-)
