God i feel so old.... watched sparks at the top rank Birmingham 74 and later same year at the town hall... really innovative band back then... check out the album "kimono my house" quality.....

beauty and the beast was a nickname the 2 brothers got...slick back his hair and give him an AH moustache and i think they would look the same. amazing talent and excentricity will always sound great but rarely achieve more than novelty value(sad to say) all the bands i love devo b52s etc ahead of their time original and quirky gotta love em and always will :)

Sparks and 10cc - two cleverest bands in history! Oh, those were the days! Too bad Muff Winwood killed Sparks' two best albums with his dreary production. Tony Visconti did a brilliant job (as usual) on Indiscreet, but the song quality was already not as great. Sometimes in my dreams I listen to Kimono and Propaganda produced by Tony as well. How do you get to alternative dimensions again?

One of the greatest TOTP performances of all time. I was 8 at the time this came out and I remember the next day virtually everybody at school said "did you see TOTP last night" and you knew it was about this track. People were openmouthed.
It's a bit Sparks were viewed as a bit of novelty act as they were actually in a class of their own at the time and a big influence on New Wave acts 5-6 years later, which is why people like Siouxsie Sioux covered them.

Absolutely amazing, the Mael brothers--and still producing some of the most innovative, cutting-edge music out there! Of course they couldn't get arrested in America, but were--and are--still beloved in Britain. Great stuff!

MrSteveutah, you are ignorant, and woefully so. If there is one rock group in the history of modern pop music that has probably never taken LSD then it would be Sparks. Moroever, Sparks are the personification of intelligent pop music and possibly the most erudite and witty lyrics in the history of pop music (and don't take my word for it, read their lyrics or see what many musical journalists have to say about Sparks). I've been a fan for over 30 years; you've thought about them for 30 seconds.
