i like kungfu de best...
but since the UFC started this kind of bashing of other art just get me nuts especially from the fan boy and punk that give me those comment (kungfu is fake,striking is ineffective bla bla bla)...
And yes Cung Le is not amongst the biggest guy in MMA but his sanshou skill has proven to be effective and not the size that matter...

Why the hell didn't Frank Shamrock take Cung Le down to the ground and make him submit?! He's a freakin grappling specialist, yet he prefer to trade blows with Cung Le? That doesn't make any sense.
Did Elite XC pay Frank to fight standing against Cung Le? I seriously hope not. If they did for Cung Le what they did for Kimbo, that would further tarnish the image of MMA.

Dude, you can't take everybody to the ground. Good strikers train to keep the fight where they want it just the same as grapplers.

I know what you mean, man. But Frank hardly tried to bring Cung Le to the ground. Frank should have stuck to his guns instead of focusing on his weaker points. It's common sense to always stick to what you're best at in order to win. Not try to trade blows with a professional striker when you know that striking isn't your strongest point.

so apparently a lot of you are dumb. first of all, the kimbo-petruzelli fight hadnt happened at this point, so theres no point in arguing that he was paid to stay standing. second, this isnt elite xc, i dont know why that was even brought up, its a strikeforce title fight. third, shamrock made every attempt to take the fight to the ground, cung le is just better in the clinch. fourth, dont diss old school asian martial arts. tiny asian people have been kicking ass for a long time, it works

its not actually jiu jitsu. jiu jitsu is the japanese version of it. the most commonly known ground game in MMA is brazillian jiu jitsu, which was an adaptation of jiu jitsu carlos and helio gracie after being taught jiu jitsu by a former samurai. there are plenty of successful fighters who dont know bjj, but know enough about the ground to defend themselves. chuck liddell doesnt like ground fighting, so he improved his take down defense so he could stop people from taking the fight to the mat.

i also agree with rareraiden. And yes all MMA fighters train in some form of bjj... and all MMA fighters train in some form of boxing too... so what is your point? All we are saying is you don't have to win the fights on the ground. You can still win standing up most of the time.
