| there's really no limit to how high an ocean wave can be. old formulae for sine waves used to describe a theoretical maximum for wind generated waves at around 40 feet, which we now know to be total hogwash. certain conditions can create seemingly random seas, where waves sort of "lose their way" the result is a sea that isnt composed of uniform sine waves, but instead composed of waves that are "probably" uniform sine waves. its like a break in what should be chop, on a much larger scale. |
