Philly was a lot ... ( 2 months ago by NativeMoon)
Philly was a lot like that then with block parties during the summer - somebody would put on a jam and the next thing you know the street was taped off, grills were out and the music was loud. Everybody from the grandparents on down would just chill and trouble just wasnt allowed. Great music (esp this song!), great people and great times. Maybe its me - but things Felt more carefree in those days even if sometimes reality painted a different picture...

I feel so sorry for this generation, I really do. Those of us coming up in the 70s and 80s were really a part of something special that you really dont get anymore. Kids could actually be kids then in a way they just cant now. And the music - how much of the stuff that passes for music now is going to be timeless like Cheryl Lynn or Sylvester or any of the greats that we are all reminiscing about? I didnt appreciate it enough then but I damn well do now!
NativeMoon, how ... ( 2 months ago by Janissi42)
NativeMoon, how come you're speaking my words? Bingo again! Those days are long gone, and I, too, feel sorry for the young people today. The "music" today probably won't even be remembered 10, 20, 30 years from now; however, the music from back in the day is timeless. You can still remember the words from songs 30 years ago! I, like you, am SO glad I grew up during the 70's/80's. Girl, don't get me started :-)
Kids could be kids, now kids have lost their innocents. We could pay outside

past dark. I remember in the 2nd grade going door to door selling candy for my school by myself. We never thought of any harm. That might be naive, but we just didn't think about it. If you want to really reminisce, check out the Soul Train line youtube video from 1974 to the Isley brothers, "Live it Up."

Oh man - ME TOO!!! ... ( 2 months ago by NativeMoon)
Oh man - ME TOO!!! I remember selling cookies and candy for school and then girl scout stuff and honest to goodness - there was absolutely no fear - not like today where the press wants you to believe that half the houses on the block belong to pedophiles... And I remmember that ANY adult on the block could chastise a kid for misbehaving and then tell my grandparents who would sit ME down and tell me a thing or too about myself...and I respected it even if I didnt like it!

Ohhh and Soul Train - watching the line just takes me Waaaaay back! That was the highlight of the show for me! We had so many good shows back then; Saturdays were really something to look forward to morning, noon and night!

And to put it in perspective, this song and countless others like it during the "Disco Era" filled the dance floor - how many of today's songs can you say that about?

First time I heard this song I was about 8y/o... I remember the neighbors across the street had the best parties, I would sit outside my house and just listen to the music.. of course I was too young to go but this song always stuck in my head and brings back memories of times long gone... too bad... you guys are right it is kind of sad, but I sure do have great memories! Thanx for posting this song ;)
