| andy24 you are completely wrong. Michael Stipe even said it was about River. He wrote this poem/letter to River a few months before his death and never got a chance to give it to him. After his death Michael found the letter and made it into a song for Rivie. They were very good friends and Michael said his death was the worst moment of his life. |

Michael asked her to sing back-up on the song so that she could earn some money. I don't think that is a "poor excuse" at all, that is a caring, loving friend.
