This sound is not ... ( 1 month ago by chibayu)
This sound is not fret 17 (or may be you r reffereng 19). Also apparently his left hand touchs around fret 12. However the sound is somewhat similar to fret 5 harmonics. How he does this?
Yes sorry I meant ... ( 1 month ago by moonturkey)
Yes sorry I meant 19:s He could be doing it on the 13 in a similar way the rock guitarists do pinch harmonics

hes using a combination on 7fr and 12fr harmonics 12.1 12.2 7.3 12.2 12.3 7.4 etc (fret.stringnumber)

Hi guitarthing. Not totally sure but maybe you are talking about melodious part of at around 02:10. But thanks for the great idea.
other than the " ... ( 1 month ago by jp0pz)
other than the "attack" or amount of strength you hit the harmonic with it can also be amplified if you strike the note an octave higher for ex if you going to hit a harmonic on the 5th fret have your plucking hand pluck exactly at the 17th fret almost like a pinch harmonic

its a 12th fret ... ( 1 month ago by geetarwanabe)
its a 12th fret harmonic, increase the height of your finger from the strings SLIGHTLY and attack the string harder. takes precision to do it
if you listen to it carefully, you can hear the open strings playing under the high notes.
same thing happens if you play a string and slowly lower your finger onto the string, essentially reducing the vibration causing a higher pitch of note.
jp0pz, I don't ... ( 1 month ago by chibayu)
jp0pz, I don't think it is a pinch harmonics. He does not pinch the strings.
geetarwanabe, you are talking about harmonics in general. What Don Ross does at around 01:59 is not a normal 12 fret harmonics. It has higher pitch.
no, pinch harmonics ... ( 1 month ago by geetarwanabe)
no, pinch harmonics are only created due to a dampening of vibration.
and i'm not talking about harmonics in general, when i said increase the height of your finger. i meant increase the height from where it would normally be from harmonics position.
it is a 12 fret harmonic, but with increase HARMONIC fingering height level and increased intensity. it just takes practise to get the right height to get a higher pitch than normal. but what i said is true
i confirm it take a ... ( 1 month ago by doditz69)
i confirm it take a lot of pratice but once you get it its kinda like the rest you dont even think about it and just execute
geetarwanabe, now I ... ( 1 month ago by chibayu)
geetarwanabe, now I understand what you meant. You are not talking about general harmonics. I am still not sure it is the answer but I think I need time to practice. Also I am thinking changing the guitar strings to match to tuning. After doing that the sound may become better. Thank you for the great idea.
doditz69, Thank you for the comment. I will practice.
This is easily one ... ( 4 weeks ago by specialist28s)
This is easily one of the most sensible things i have read on the internet. without your support, don would not be composing and playing his divine music in front of you. He wld be starved, too weak to do any of this.

Haha did you see him do a little tuning fix at around 1:50?
I did no say it was ... ( 3 weeks ago by jp0pz)
I did no say it was pinch harmonics , just really pointing out that the right hands positioning affects harmonics i wasn't saying it was pinch harmonics i was saying that if you play harmonics and your right hand is positioned where it would be like you were going to play a pinch harmonic it will sound higher pitched then if played further back on the strings ... if that makes sense
Guys, all he does ... ( 3 weeks ago by SlappytheNinja)
Guys, all he does is hit his harmonics harder. That's really it.

i agree with you i was just trying to explain another approach with harmonics but some people are too eager to read
in response to ... ( 3 weeks ago by aplarus)
in response to jpoops, the pitch isn't higher unless you were to place an additional node with your right hand. The tone becomes progresively brighter the farther away from the antinode you pick, ie. closer to the bridge.

jp0pz, I reviewed your first comment again and now I see what you meant. Sorry for my misunderstanding and thank you for your help.

that's pretty crazy how he cuts his fingernails. That just shows the devotion he has to playing guitar. or maybe he did it just so he could fingerpick more efficiently. it is a cool idea, tho. maybe i should try it...
good music anyways :)
