I disagree with allowing doping, as some doctor-athlete combinations will have great drugs, while poorer athletes will have none. Then we'd end up setting up all-doping athlete testing areas, and some athletes would have serious health issues, or even die, even under doctor care.
You do bring up a very good point though in that drugs are improving all the time, and it stands to reason something like a gene-doped athlete will break this record.

Theres a great splitscreen pic of Flo-jo in 1986 to 1988...the bulk in muscle grwoth was ridiculous. Steroids.
Dr.Wade Exum the leading US anti-doping official revealed documentation in 2004 that between 1988-2000 over 100 US Olympians tested positive for steroids but was covered up by the US Olympic commitee...one such case being Carl lewis who tested positive for 3 banned steroids at 1988 US trials...concealed by US officials. This was before Balco that other US disgrace.
